Welcome to www.globalstrings.com. We assume if you are here then you must be a musician and you probably need new strings for your instruments. We are a dedicated Canadian string site that tries our best to save you money and give you excellent, fast service. We supply major Canadian musicians like Randy Bachman with all their string needs and we can, of course, supply you. 1964 - The Beatles' first U.S. tour opens at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

1973 - Kris Kristofferson marries Rita Coolidge in a ceremony presided over by his minister father.

2000 - Reba McEntire makes her live performance debut in Brazil at the annual Barretos Rodeo. The Oklahoma native plays before a crowd estimated at 30-40,000.
2003 - Sting is named the 2003 recipient of the Century Award, Billboard's highest honor for creative achievement. The award is to be presented to the former Police frontman Dec. 10 at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas.
2003 - Australian singer Olivia Newton-John begins postponing her North American tour with a miss in Albuquerque, N.M., so that she can be by her ailing mother's side.

- A bomb in at a paramilitary police training academy in the town of Issers 60 km east of Algiers kills at least 43 people and injures another 38. (BBC)
- French forces engage in heavy fighting with Taliban insurgents 50 kilometres east of Kabul, Afghanistan with 10 French soldiers dead. (AFP via Google News), (BBC)
- NATO will today deliver a "strong message" to Russia over its conduct in Georgia - but is likely to stop short of the punishment measures some members want to see (Sky News), (BBC), (CNN).
- Russian and Georgian forces exchange prisoners of war (Reuters Alertnet).
- A United Nations aid convoy which entered Gori on Sunday reported evidence of large-scale looting. "While the buildings did not appear to be very damaged, there are clear signs of massive looting of both shops and private accommodations," the office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees said. - Russia begins to withdraw troops from Georgia proper according to eyewitness accounts (Reuters)

- Alexander Stubb, the current Chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe says that Russia has agreed to a beefed-up monitoring mission for Georgia's disputed region of South Ossetia.(AP via Google News)
- Georgian police cars had been blocking the road and the police told Russian tank commanders that they were carrying out orders. The tanks proceeded to plow ahead, damaging the police cars in the process (CNN), (CNN).
